[Cross Country] Cross country hosts dual meet with UNC Asheville

Comments

BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. – After the USC Upstate Eye Opener was cancelled Friday evening due to weather, Montreat College cross country hosted UNC Asheville in a dual meet Saturday morning at Pulliam Stadium in Black Mountain.

"Our meet at USC Upstate was delayed a few times and finally canceled five minutes before the start due to lightning," said director of cross country Jason Lewkowicz. "Fortunately, we were able to schedule a race with UNC Asheville which took place on our Black Mountain campus this morning. It was a short turnaround after getting back last night, but the team came out motivated and ready to compete."

On the women's side, Lydia Wilson snagged the individual win with a finish of 18:24, 14 seconds better than the runner-up from UNCA. Erica Morin came in fifth at 19:25 while Lillie Siniard (19:51), Amy Schlosser (20:31), and Jenna Mallory (20:38) rounded out the top 10. Rosie Marshall, Skyler Tait, Jerica Ploeger, and Alma Rodriguez completed the efforts for Montreat's women.

"The women had a great morning with several personal best efforts. Lydia was strong and relaxed and had a solid outing. We had several small packs working together that really kept the group focused," said Coach Lewkowicz.

Dan O'Dell was the top finisher for Montreat's men, coming in fifth overall with a time of 15:41. Close behind were Antonio Gomez, finishing seventh at 15:59, and Caleb Silver with an eighth place finish at 16:01. Rounding out the top 20 for the Cavs were Dylan Branch (16:13), Garret Welsh (16:15), Jacob Parker (16:40), and Caleb Potter (17:11).

"I was pleased with how the men competed this morning as well. We held out a few of our top guys but really showed our depth. This group is working really well together and we look forward to racing the full squad in two weeks," said Coach Lewkowicz.

Up Next: Both squads will compete in the Queen City Invite in Charlotte, N.C. on Friday, Sept. 27.
