[Men's Indoor Track and Field] Montreat runners shine in Myrtle Beach Half MarathonPublished by
Montreat's track and field team represented well at the 2009 Myrtle Beach Half Marathon. The Cavaliers placed three finishers in the top 20 in a field of over 2800 runners. Senior Justin Edwards led all Montreat runners by clocking 1:18:16 in 8th place overall. Sophomore Andrew Hege finished just seconds behind in 9th place with a time of 1:18:28. Hege won his age group while Edwards finished second in his. Sophomore Ben Hall also ran very well in a time of 1:20:04 for 17th place. Freshman Lady Cavalier Kayla Suiter finished her first half marathon in a solid 1:38:44 for 171st place.
"Our runners are demonstrating great competitiveness. This is a great introduction to our outdoor track season. We have another half marathon that most of the team will compete in in March, so we're hoping to have a few national qualifiers in that race," said head coach Jose Larios. "Kayla had a great debut and Jed and Andrew set a great example for our underclassmen. I feel very certain that we'll have a few qualifiers at our next one in Albany."
